The East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar (ETREYS) is designed to foster positive ideas and values among young people and to enhance skills in leadership, problem-solving and interpersonal relationships in a wholesome environment.
Elegible students are current high school sophomore and juniors going into their junior and senior years this fall. Participants are selected on the basis of overall excellence with All Expenses Paid by their sponsoring rural electric cooperative. The seminar consists of workshops, presentations and peer group activities. Several functions and free-time activities are also planned to develop friendships and provide fun and relaxation.
Speakers include nationally-known personalities, college professors and community leaders. The session topics range from leadership development to pure entertainment.
ETREYS offers students a chance to develop their interpersonal skills while competing with each other for one of eleven scholarships. Everyone that attends the seminar has the opportunity to leave better equipped to take leadership roles in their schools and community.
